Shopian, Apr 24 (KNO): Residents of Watchi village in Shopian are struggling with inundation for the last several months causing hardships to people.
The residents of the area told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they have been grappling with a perennial issue of water logging while administration is acting as mute spectators.
They said that amid intense rains, roads get submerged and homes inundated.
Aabid Hussain, a local said that the situation is exacerbated by poor drainage system and inadequate infrastructure, leaving residents frustrated.
He said that road leading to Ziyarat Shareef Hazrat Ameer Kabeer Mir Syed Ali Hamadani (RA) remains inundated for days after little rainfall.
Javid Ahmad another resident said that businesses suffer, mobility is hampered and health risks escalate as stagnant water becomes a breeding ground for diseases due to water logging
He said that there is high school en route and students have to enter through a window to attend schools but no attention is being given towards it.
Locals said that after bringing the issue repeatedly into the notice of concerned authorities, nothing happened except for visit of officials.
They assured that drain will be constructed but nothing is being done on the ground.
They said that efforts to address the issue have been sporadic, highlighting the need for comprehensive and sustainable solutions to alleviate the plight of Watchi residents.
They requested LG administration to act immediately so that locals won't suffer anymore.
An official said that a drain has been sanctioned for the area and work on it will start soon—(KNO)
